October

Hello!  Happy October!

I hope that you are enjoying the month.  There are so many events coming up in our school as well as in the music room.

Grades PreK-5th are getting into the spirit by singing or playing Halloween songs in my classroom.  The band students are working in their new books for the year and working hard.
My 7/8 music students continue to learn more about our American roots by diving into African American spirituals and gospels.  We have been taking some notes and singing songs of that style in class.  These songs are the basis of our popular music!

Starting November 1st, all students will begin to work on the Advent program (and holiday program for the band students).  Look for the Advent program words to be coming home in the weeks to come.  Please have your student work on the songs at home!

Have a wonderful month and if you have questions, email me!

September!

Hi everyone!
Here are a few things that are happening in each grade this month.
PreK---we'll be meeting starting next month! I can't wait to see you!
Kindergarten--we are working on tempo and singing as a class.
1st grade--we are working on songs with a few notes to them and adding movement to make them more exciting.
2nd grade--as we review our notes, we are working on songs that need our good singing voices.
3rd grade--we are working on rhythm so the lummi sticks have become our new instrument for the fall.
4th grade--to prepare for recorders this winter, we are using Boomwhackers (plastic hollow tubes) to work on reading music.
5th grade--Recorders are needed starting this Friday, October 1st!  We will review songs that were used last year before we work on new material.  If you have lost your recorder, then please buy/find one before Friday!
6th grade--BAND! Keep working on those first 5 notes!
7th/8th music students--we are spending this fall learning more about spirituals and gospel music.  Be prepared to sing this style in the near future.
7th band--we are reviewing, clarinets are learning their upper register notes, and it good to see you in class again! Please have Essential Elements 2000 book 2 by Monday, October 4th!
8th band--we are also reviewing and learning more about 6/8 time.  Remember your quiz on Johnny comes marching home is tomorrow, Sept. 28th.  Please have Essential Elements 2000 book 3 by Tuesday, October 5th!

It is great to be back and I am looking forward to a great school year with all of you!
